CHONGQING, China -- With several auto plants and more than 40 motorcycle makers,
Chongqing is China's version of the Motor City. The city with nearly three times
Michigan's population (31 million) has undergone dramatic changes in recent years
as more manufacturers from Michigan and across the globe set up shop.
"Chongqing is taking on new luster ... it is a less-expensive place to do business
than either Beijing or Shanghai," says C. Peter Theut, head of the international
group at Detroit law firm Butzel Long.
